I was poking around online one morning this week and I ended up logging into Lynda.com again. Lynda offers video classes in tech, business and life classes. I learned Search Engine Optimization on there a few years ago just from taking a video class. Lynda.com was bought from LinkedIn so even though I have already been a member, I was able to get in and try out a free month membership. I really did not want to be a full member just yet. What normally happens is I find all these cool classes to take, then get so busy with my web and graphic design projects I do not have the time to finish them. I think I might be able to access it via my library system but I have not looked into it yet.
This time I decided to take a Drawing and Painting in Photoshop class. I looked at a few more marketing and business-related classes and decided that what really excites me is design and creativity. I am sure many of you are like me in that you learn things or do jobs just because it seems like a good skill that will bring in more money. Search Engine Optimization has certainly done that for me but I do not get as excited as I do when I am designing. There is a mainstream thought which states you cannot make money doing art or creative work. I have found that to be completely untrue. As an example, over the past couple of years, I have seen the logo design side of my business grow considerably and that falls into the creative, joyful, design work I love. So yes, you can make money doing work you love and are passionate about. You can even pay all your bills and thrive on it. I am hoping once I learn some of the new techniques I will be able to easily bring it into my work with Third Eye Design Studio.
If you want to check out Lynda.com which is now LinkedIn Learning I highly recommend it. I love being able to take a class in my own time whenever I have the time.
